Homecoming King and Queen information

Nominating group receives 10 points for each entry (limit one nominee per organization for King and one for Queen).  Plus 15 points if the candidate makes it to the interview stage.  Plus 20 points for each entry who is voted on to the Homecoming Court Plus 30 points if your entry is elected King or Queen

Homecoming King and Queen Timeline

  • Homecoming Participation Forms Due: Friday, Sept. 19th by 5 p.m.
  • King & Queen Candidate Applications Due: Friday, September 19th by MIDNIGHT
  • Application Review Process: Sept. 22nd & 26rh(Monday -Friday)
  • In-Person Interviews & Photos: Sept. 28th – Oct. 1st (Sunday – Wednesday)
  • Nominees must have their picture taken. There will be no charge for pictures. Nominees should wear business attire.
  • Homecoming Court Announced: Wednesday, Oct. 1st by 5 p.m.

  • Campaigning: Oct. 2nd at 8 a.m. – Wednesday, Oct. 8th at 5 p.m. (Thursday – Wednesday)
  • Contact Tabling: Friday, Oct. 3rd  & Monday, Oct. 6- Wednesday, Oct. 8th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in PSU
  • Student Body Voting: Oct. 3rd at 8 a.m. – Wednesday, Oct. 8th at 5 p.m. (Friday – Wednesday)
  • Half-Time Rehearsal: TBD
  • Homecoming Pep Rally: Friday, Oct. 10 from 7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • Homecoming Parade: Saturday, Oct. 11 at 10:00 am
  • Court should wear business attire in Appalachian State colors if possible.

  • Nominations due September 19, 2014 online by 5:00 pm
  • No former King or Queen may be nominated 
  • Elections Oct 2 starting at 8:00 am  Ending on October 4 at  5:00 pm
  • Candidates must be nominated by a recognized club or organization registered with the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership (CSIL).
  • Any recognized student group may nominate one male for King and one female for Queen.  Nominees do not have to belong to your organization or live in your Residence Hall.
  • Candidates must be an enrolled ASU student in good academic standing. Must have a 2.5 minimum GPA.
  • Male candidates may only be nominated for Homecoming King.  Female candidates may only be nominated for Homecoming Queen.
  • Appalachian State University Homecoming King and Queen Nominees are invited to participate in limited campaigning for their aforementioned positions. Once nominated and photographed, nominees may create a single Facebook group for campaigning. No other means of campaigning is allowed. 
    • You are in charge of your supporters and what they post. 
    • No money can be spent on campaigning. Facebook is the only campaigning tool. No banners, flyers, posters, chalking, car paint, voting parties, door to door knocking at residences, etc.
    • One Facebook group per candidate
    • Homecoming nominee must serve as the administrator of the group along with the SGA Director of Elections
    • Group picture is limited to the photograph authorized by the Appalachian State University Student Government Association Special Events Committee
    • Candidates may not work together in the creation or maintenance of a group
    • No group(s) can be designed against another
    • Any overtly negative posts by members of other competing organizations in homecoming during the voting process may lead to a disqualification of the posting individual’s group in homecoming competition.
    • Each Facebook page may only feature an individual candidate; mentions of other candidates will result in disqualifications.
    • Facebook is the only means of campaigning; therefore, it is a good place to show why you should be voted for.

    • *Violation of any of the previously discussed criteria will lead to the nominee’s immediate disqualification. Any violations will be addressed directly by the Appalachian State University  Student  Government Association Director of Student Affairs and Director of External Affairs in consultation with the chairs of the University Homecoming Committee. 
  • The candidate for King and Queen with the highest total votes is elected.  No runoff election is held.  In the case of a tie, a drawing will be held to determine the King or Queen, respectively.
  • Candidates elected to the court will be notified prior to the Homecoming game and will be expected to participate in all Homecoming activities.*
  • If a student is nominated by more than one organization, the nominee will have to choose which group he/she is representing.  If no clear choice is communicated to the chair of the university homecoming committee, the nominating group which nominated the individual first will receive any credit.
