Lip Sync Competition Rules


Application Process

All organizations competing are required to fill out the homecoming entry form on-line by Friday, September 19, 2014.
An audio file containing the group’s music, which will be used in the actual performance, are due to RHA via email
( by 5:00 PM Wednesday, September 24, 2014.
Information that must be in the e-mail:
  • Name of Organization
  • Title of performance/Theme of performance
  • Names of all participants
  • E-mail address of a contact person for the organization
The organization’s contact person will be sent an e-mail confirmation when RHA receives the application AND  audio file.  


(Participants need to be at the designated area by 7:30 pm ready to start!)

Campus Finals

Friday, October 10, 2014 (6:00-8:00pm) on Duck Pond Field Rain location: Holmes Convocation Center)
Participants need to be at Duck Pond Field and check in by 5:30PM!
  • Top 4 Greek teams will advance to the finals 
  • Top 4 Residence Hall organizations will advance to the finals 
  • Top 4 University Funded organizations will advance to the finals 
  • Top 4 Clubs will advance to the finals
  • The groups advancing to this performance will be competing against all other groups in your category Greek, UFO, Hall Council or Club.  
  • 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each category will be awarded.
There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place over-all winner named for the Lip Sync Competition.  The three over-all winning organizations will receive a cash prize of $150, $125 for $100 respectively for their performance. **UFOs are not eligible for this money
In the event of inclement weather announcements will be made through ASUinfo, on and on AppSync.

Overall Performance Guidelines

  • Only current Appalachian State University students and advisors may participate.
  • Performances are to be between 3 and 4 minutes in length.  Performances lasting longer than 4 minutes will be disqualified!
  • No objects may be thrown from the stage into the audience.
  • Edited music is expected. (Please refrain from using music containing profane language.)
  • Group must provide their own “microphones” if needed.
  • Keep performances within an 20’ X 24’ area (the size of the stage in the Campus Finals).
  • This is a Family-Friendly event—please no inappropriate dancing (sexual or crude in nature) and no inappropriate props and no revealing costumes.


All judges will be unbiased representatives of the university community (faculty & staff)
Evaluation will be based on:
Originality 20%
Incorporation of Theme 20%
Costume and Props 20%
Accuracy 20%
Energy 20%
If your groups advances to the finals and fails to perform, your group forfeits all of the points earned during the Lip Sync Competition.

Points for the Event:

Preliminaries Participation 15 points
Campus Finals:   
     1st Place 110 points
     2nd Place 80 points
     3rd Place 50 points
     Participation 25 points

***If your group leaves behind any trash or props, points will be deducted from your final score. ***
